We’re hosting a university event at the University of Manchester on Wednesday 14th November 2018.

This will be especially useful to those working in Widening Participation and Outreach, HR, volunteering or alumni engagement at universities across England. 

You’ll have the opportunity to observe a University of Manchester school governor volunteer recruitment event, following which you’ll be able to learn more about setting up your own school governor volunteering initiative for staff and/or alumni. The University of Manchester and Governors for Schools teams will be available to discuss their approach to setting up a school governor initiative to develop staff and alumni, which you can adapt for your own institution. 

The timings for the day will be as follows:

13:00 – 14:00 A presentation will be made to University of Manchester staff interested in becoming a school governor. For other universities, this is a great opportunity to view a recruitment event in action and to hear from staff about their experience of being a governor.

14:00 – 15:00 Staff from other universities can meet the Governors for Schools and University of Manchester teams to find out more about setting up your own governor initiative.

Stephanie Lee, Head of Widening Participation and Alison Gregory, Student Recruitment & Widening Participation Officer will be discussing the staff engagement initiative.

Helen Foote, Acting Senior Alumni Officer will be talking about promoting the opportunity to alumni.

 

The agenda includes:

  • Why the University set up their governor initiative and what steps were taken to achieve this
  • How they recruit and support staff
  • The benefits of the initiative and how it supports University priorities including: widening participation, social responsibility, staff development and alumni engagement.
  • How the University recruits and supports alumni
  • How Governors for Schools work with universities
  • The recruitment and matching process
  • Reporting on outcomes

There will also be some time for questions and answers.
