Governors for Schools is an education charity that places a diverse range of volunteers on school boards across England and Wales. There are currently thousands of vacancies across England and Wales, particularly in areas of disadvantage. We work hard to address these gaps to ensure young people across the country receive the high-quality education they deserve.
Our impact
In the year 2021-22, we placed almost 2,000 volunteers on schools boards in over 1,500 schools across England and Wales. Of these volunteers, over a third were from ethnic minority backgrounds and 63% were aged under 45 – helping address demographic imbalances across the sector.
Our volunteers are committed to making a difference in their roles, regularly engaging with our eLearning modules to enhance their efficacy in board meetings. Our most popular module is ‘An Introduction to School Governance’, which helps first-time governors prepare for their roles and currently holds an impressive completion rate of 70%. Thanks to our training and matching abilities, 96% of schools surveyed in a recent impact report said volunteers found through Governors for Schools are as skilled as, or better than, other governors.
