About Governors for Schools
Governors for Schools is a charity dedicated to supporting education through effective governance. We do this by sourcing skilled volunteers to serve on governing boards across schools, academy trusts, and Further Education (FE) colleges. For over 25 years, we’ve played a vital role in helping educational institutions build exceptional boards.
We know that good governance ensures learners benefit from the best possible education. That’s why we focus on building diverse, knowledgeable, and committed boards that drive positive change and improve outcomes for pupils and students alike. Our services are designed to help all phases of state-funded, educational settings access the governance expertise they need to thrive.
Our aspirations for the governance sector
The aspirations we have for the education governance sector are clear and focused. Through our recruitment services and ongoing support, we advocate for:
- Schools, trusts and FE colleges investing in governance – Encouraging a proactive approach to recruiting and retaining skilled governors.
- Mental health and wellbeing – Motivating boards to show their commitment to staff and pupil mental health by having a wellbeing governor.
- Diversity on governing boards – Promoting inclusive governance and representation that reflects school – and local – communities.
- Volunteer training and peer support – Providing governors with the resources, training, and connections needed to excel in their roles.
- Valuable links between education and industry – Creating opportunities for cross-sector collaboration that benefits both education and the wider community.
