The Schools & Academies Show 2022 took place on 27th April at ExCeL, London for the first time in over three years. Governors for Schools are pleased to have attended the event in person and shared our important mission with a receptive and enthusiastic audience.

The show’s return to London provided the perfect opportunity for the sector to continue moving from recovery to re-discovery, bringing together over 3,000 attendees, 150 inspirational speakers and 140 leading education suppliers. It also offered the perfect meeting and networking space for senior leaders from schools to meet and discuss how to overcome the biggest challenges facing the UK’s education sector.

Governors for Schools’ CEO Hannah Stolton was delighted to take part in the event and share her insights about the current governance landscape. She explains: “I really enjoyed attending the Schools and Academies Show in person this year – it’s been so long since we’ve been able to meet with people across the sector! For me, those face-to-face interactions represented the most enjoyable aspect of the day. I was especially pleased to hear from those who had used and benefited from our service or would like our help in the future.

“In short, Governors for Schools finds, places, and supports skilled volunteers as governors and trustees on school and academy boards. We work with schools across England and Wales to place diverse and highly skilled governors on boards in need, significantly improving educational standards for children in the process. In attending the show, we were able to spread the word about our service and learn more about pressing issues affecting schools.

“The varied mix of sessions meant there was something for everyone. In fact, there was almost too much choice, and I had difficulty picking which sessions to attend. Hearing from experts and industry leaders ensured there was plenty to take away and digest about where we are now and the next steps in education.

“For the panel session which I was a part of, I was delighted and humbled to have an engaged audience who asked thoughtful questions. It was great to hear from others about their thoughts on the future of governance and how the landscape is changing. We also considered the ways in which it needs to change to ensure boards continue delivering high-quality assistance and allow a diverse range of people from across society to have their voices heard.

“We’re already looking forward to the next Schools and Academy Show, when we’re sure to have plenty of fascinating developments to report back to our friends and colleagues across the sector.
