By volunteering as a school governor, you can make a difference within your local community and develop your career. Our CPD-certified eLearning allows you to start the role with all the knowledge you need to be an effective school governor. With detailed information about the role and responsibilities, and examples of best practice from existing school governors, you’ll be ready to fully engage with meetings and visits early on. We’ve also included all the terminology you’ll need to know be become an effective school governor.
This course is built for everyone – regardless of whether you’re new to volunteering in education, or have worked in the sector before.
We offer different courses depending on the type of school you’re in…
The majority of the school governor role will remain the same from school to school, but depending on the type of school you’re in, you may have different responsibilities, or different things to consider. That’s why we offer two courses with dedicated modules depending on whether you’re a school governor in a maintained school, or academy trust.
Maintained schools operate through the local authority. Examples of maintained schools include: community schools, voluntary aided and controlled schools, and foundation schools. In contrast, academy trusts are charitable bodies responsible for overseeing and governing a group of schools. Most academy trusts are multi-academy trusts (MATs).
