Over recent months, there have been significant changes to how the education governance sector is funded. Despite these changes, Governors for Schools will continue to serve the sector, supporting schools and academy trusts to find skilled and dedicated volunteers for their governing boards. As we prepare to celebrate 25 years of service, we want to say thank you to the countless schools, trusts, volunteers and partners who make our work possible. Through your enduring commitment and collaboration, we have supported the appointment of thousands of volunteers across England and Wales. We’re looking forward to continuing this work, strengthening governing boards with a diverse range of voices.

Creating a sustainable future for education governance

At the heart of our work is the knowledge that school governors and academy trustees play a critical role in education. They are instrumental in setting the strategic direction, ensuring accountability, and driving improvement in education.

To ensure schools and trusts continue to have access to a diverse pool of skilled and dedicated volunteers, we have evolved our services. A number of paid-for offerings now complement our free governor recruitment service, both to meet the evolving needs of the sector and ensure our sustainability as an organisation. It is vital that schools and trusts see these services as a means to invest in effective, robust governance going forward.

Hannah Stolton, CEO of Governors for Schools, emphasises the importance of our ongoing development as a charity;

While recent funding changes present challenges for education, our dedication to supporting schools and academy trusts remains unwavering. We are focused on continuing to provide exceptional governance volunteers who can make a real difference in education. Our 25th anniversary is a testament to the lasting impact we have had to date, and we are excited about the opportunities to further strengthen our work to ensure our longevity in the sector.

If you have vacancies on your governing boards ahead of the new academic year, register them with us now so that we can start the search over the school break. In the meantime, we wish you a restful summer – hopefully with some good weather too.
