Partnering with academy trusts to build exceptional governing boards

At Governors for Schools, we partner with multi academy trusts (MATs) to strengthen governance at every level. We understand the importance of having skilled and committed leaders, so we work closely with MATs to recruit governance volunteers for governing boards.

Our goal is to support MATs in building a robust governance structure, ensuring effective leadership that drives educational excellence across all schools within the trust.

How can Governors for Schools help academy trusts through partnerships?

We have several recruitment teams that specialise in finding dedicated governance volunteers, each with a different focus…

  • School governor recruitment: Our free-to-access school governor recruitment service matches applicants with your local committee member vacancies. Alternatively, for boards with urgent or hard-to-fill vacancies, our Enhanced Recruitment Service (ERS) is ideal. Using targeted headhunting and outreach, ERS sources candidates specifically for your role. All new starters get 12 months access to GovernorHub Knowledge. Those recruited through ERS can additionally access our online induction training for those joining local school boards.
  • Chair of governors recruitment: Our Chair Recruitment Service exists to identify and match experienced leaders with the role of chair, providing mentoring and support for their first four months.
  • Academy trustee recruitment: The Trustee Recruitment Service is a premium service focused on finding and onboarding high-calibre academy trustees, members, and chairs, tailored to your academy trust’s specific needs. We also have a training and support team that offer induction support to your governance volunteers including:

  • Online induction modules: The ‘Become an Effective New Schools Governor in academies’ is a CPD-certified series of eLearning modules that covers a range of essential topics for new governors, including an introduction to the role, effective challenge, acting strategically and more.
