As a busy leader, it’s often hard to find time for your own professional development. You’re focused on making improvements to your schools and trust, and supporting others to ensure that all the pupils’ needs are met. But as you’ll know, conferences and exhibitions are a great source of inspiration, and an opportunity to see what’s going on outside of your own setting, and reflect on your practice – hopefully you’ll be able to make time to join us at the Schools and Academies Show this year.
My name is Hannah Stolton, CEO of Governors for Schools. We’re an education charity that finds, matches and supports volunteers into the very many vacancies on school and trust governing boards across England and Wales. I’d love to have you join me on Wednesday, 17th May at the upcoming Schools and Academies Show at Excel London. We’ll be exhibiting at stand K37 – so do drop by to say hello and talk to us about governance at your school or trust.
I’m delighted to be speaking at the event, and have the opportunity to discuss governance in the changing education landscape with Gill Cowley, Chair of Governors and Winner of Governor of the Year at the National Schools Awards 2022. We’ll be talking about how getting the right people round your board table can empower you to achieve even greater things. Ensuring boards have a diversity of perspective is core to our mission, and I’m looking forward to exploring how bringing people in from other industries can really benefit your board. We’re keen to reach those who perhaps don’t know about the opportunities school governance brings, and encourage them to take up the challenge – to give back to their communities, and to benefit from the professional development gained through the role.
In September we launched our Trustee Recruitment Service, so we’ll be using the conference as an opportunity to share information about the support we can provide, not only with your governor recruitment needs, but also to help you find the right trustee for any vacancies you might have. We have just launched out new online dashboard too, and will be happy to demonstrate how it makes the lives of hard working governance professionals and clerks a little bit easier.
Alongside us, we know that so many of our sector partners are exhibiting and contributing – I’m sure there will be something of interest for every attendee, whatever your role. It will be a great opportunity to access a whole range of services that can support and help your schools on their journey.
The Schools and Academies Show features 30+ hours of CPD-accredited content with keynote sessions, workshop seminars, and other educational sessions. If I’m away from our stand, I’ll be attending one of these sessions, learning about the latest developments in education and taking the opportunity to exchange ideas with other professionals, and gain new insights.
